Adding a self defense mechanism to the Companion Cube was widely regarded as a bad idea.

I totally can see Aperture doing something like this

This made after I wondered why GLaDOS would specify the companion cube would never threaten to stab you, despite it having no access to knives. The obvious answer - one of the earlier models was indeed capable of doing so.

Not so friendly now is it?

Just because it will not THREATEN to stab you does not mean it won't shank you when your back's turned. Just means it won't mention it first.
